Tesla Cybertruck in Chennai: A Rust-Free Statement for the Coast and the City

Overview

Chennai's relationship with cars is practical, proud and quietly passionate. This is a city with one of India's deepest motorsport traditions, centred on the Madras Motor Race Track at Irungattukottai, a city that assembles vehicles for export by the shipload, and a city whose old families in Poes Garden, Boat Club and Alwarpet have always preferred understatement to flash. The Tesla Cybertruck challenges that last tradition head-on, and that is exactly why it fascinates.

The truck offered through Big Boy Toyz is the Cyberbeast, Tesla's most powerful Cybertruck. Three motors combine for 845 hp (630 kW), taking it to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. The EPA range is about 515 km. Its outer shell is an Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel exoskeleton with Tesla Armor Glass, a material choice that has particular appeal in a humid, salty coastal city. First revealed in 2019, the Cybertruck began reaching US customers in November 2023.

Tesla officially launched in India in July 2025 with the Model Y. The Cybertruck sits entirely outside Tesla India's catalogue. BBT's Cyberbeast is priced at ₹3.99 crore, imported and unregistered, and the buyer completes registration in their own name. Big Boy Toyz does not operate a showroom in the city itself, so buyers should contact BBT directly. The nearest showroom is on Residency Road, Richmond Town, Bengaluru.

For a Chennai owner, the Cybertruck makes a strong case. It has no paint to bubble or fade in the heat, air suspension that helps when the northeast monsoon floods the roads, and enough range and luggage space for a weekend drive down the East Coast Road. Contact BBT to arrange a viewing.

Model Features

Chennai's engineering community will appreciate how different the Cybertruck is beneath the surface. These are the main features of the Cyberbeast available to Chennai buyers through BBT.

  • Three-motor AWD: one motor driving the front wheels and two driving the rear, for 845 hp (630 kW).
  • Acceleration and speed: 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds; top speed about 209 km/h.
  • Battery and range: roughly 123 kWh of capacity and an EPA-rated range of about 515 km.
  • Exoskeleton: unpainted Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel that resists corrosion and forms part of the structure.
  • Armor Glass: Tesla's toughened glazing, designed to shrug off stone chips.
  • Steer-by-wire: no mechanical column, about 340 degrees lock to lock.
  • Rear-wheel steering: up to 10 degrees, making the long truck easier to place.
  • Air suspension: adaptive, with up to about 443 mm of ground clearance when raised.
  • High-voltage design: an 800V system built from two 400V halves, rated for up to 325 kW DC charging on Tesla's V4 equipment in the US and 11.5 kW AC.
  • Powershare: 9.6 kW of outlet power via 120V and 240V sockets, with 11.5 kW vehicle-to-home capability in its home market.
  • Utility: a lockable 6 by 4 foot vault bed (about 67 cubic feet), a frunk of about 7 cubic feet, around 1,134 kg of payload and an 11,000 lb (about 4,990 kg) tow rating.

It is a specification that rewards close reading, and one that no other vehicle in the city can match.

Variants

Tesla has revised the Cybertruck line-up repeatedly since deliveries started. Today, three versions are offered in the US:

  • Dual Motor AWD: 600 hp, 4.1 seconds to 60 mph, about 523 km of range, coil springs with adaptive dampers and a 7,500 lb tow rating.
  • Premium AWD: 600 hp, air suspension, the 9.4-inch rear screen, 15-speaker audio and an 11,000 lb tow rating.
  • Cyberbeast: the flagship with three motors, 845 hp, 2.6 seconds to 60 mph and about 515 km of range.

The Foundation Series, with special badging and bundled features, was sold until January 2025. A Long Range RWD model appeared briefly from April to September 2025, and a planned range extender was dropped in 2025. For Chennai buyers, the Cyberbeast represents the complete Cybertruck experience.

Colours

The Cybertruck is built in a single finish: brushed stainless steel, never painted. In a city where intense sun and salt air are hard on paintwork, that is a real advantage. Owners who want colour or extra protection use paint protection film, and Tesla's own wraps include:

  • Satin Clear: keeps the natural steel look and makes cleaning off salt spray easier.
  • Satin Stealth Black: a dramatic dark finish, though it will absorb more heat in Chennai's summer.
  • Satin Abyss Blue: a deep blue with a nod to the Bay of Bengal.
  • Forest Green: an earthy option for weekend trips into the hills.
  • Satin Rose Gold: the boldest choice, unmissable on Besant Nagar's beachfront.

For most Chennai owners, Satin Clear is the sensible starting point, preserving the steel's character while simplifying care.

Fuel Efficiency and Mileage

Because the Cybertruck is fully electric, the question for Chennai owners is not fuel economy but range and charging. The Cyberbeast's EPA-rated range is about 515 km. Chennai's climate is the main variable. With high temperatures and humidity for much of the year, the air-conditioning runs constantly, and that will trim real-world range. On the other hand, the slow, stop-start traffic on Anna Salai or OMR lets regenerative braking recover energy. Sustained speeds on the ECR to Pondicherry or the highway to Bengaluru will draw more.

  • Home AC charging: up to 11.5 kW. For owners in independent houses in Adyar, Kotturpuram or Anna Nagar, or villas along ECR, a wallbox installed by a qualified electrician will handle almost all charging.
  • DC fast charging: in the US, Tesla's V4 chargers can feed it up to 325 kW, good for about 215 km in around 15 minutes. The truck uses a North American (NACS) port, and India's public fast chargers use a different connector, so public charging compatibility should not be assumed.

BBT's after-sales team can help you plan a reliable home-charging arrangement. During cyclone season, it is also worth ensuring your charger and its wiring are installed well above flood level.

Design and Comfort

The Cybertruck's look is pure geometry. Flat stainless steel panels meet at hard creases, the roofline forms a single sharp triangle, and slim light bars span the full width at both ends. On the ECR at golden hour, the steel takes on the colours of the sky, which is a sight few Chennai drivers will forget.

It is a big vehicle by any standard. Length is about 5,683 mm, width 2,032 mm and height 1,796 mm, with a wheelbase of around 3,635 mm and a Cyberbeast kerb weight of roughly 3,130 kg. Chennai's arterial roads, OMR and ECR accommodate it easily, while the narrower streets of Mylapore and T. Nagar need patience. Rear-wheel steering of up to 10 degrees makes a real difference, shrinking the turning circle so U-turns and tight parking are more manageable.

The cabin is clean, light and spacious. A large glass roof brightens the interior, five adults fit comfortably, and the flat rear floor gives everyone proper legroom. Storage options are generous: a lockable vault bed under a powered tonneau cover, a front trunk and a hidden compartment under the rear seat.

The adaptive air suspension is particularly relevant in Chennai. When the northeast monsoon and cyclones bring heavy rain between October and December, roads in many neighbourhoods flood quickly. Raising the body to about 443 mm of ground clearance helps on waterlogged stretches, though no vehicle should ever be driven into water of unknown depth. The rest of the year, the suspension simply smooths out the city's patchy surfaces.

Performance & Engine

Inside the Cyberbeast are three electric motors: one on the front axle and two on the rear. Their combined 845 hp (630 kW) takes the truck from rest to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, with a top speed of about 209 km/h. The delivery is silent and seamless, which makes the pace even more startling for passengers who have never experienced it.

Chennai has its own places to appreciate that response. Merging onto the Rajiv Gandhi Salai, overtaking a line of buses on the GST Road toward Chengalpattu, or cruising past the casuarina groves on the ECR toward Mahabalipuram, the Cybertruck answers instantly. On a weekend run to Pondicherry, the effortless power makes two-lane overtakes calm and controlled.

The steer-by-wire system replaces the steering column with electronic control. Driver input is read by sensors and executed by actuators, allowing a variable ratio that needs only about 340 degrees from lock to lock. Combined with up to 10 degrees of rear-wheel steering, it makes a large truck feel unexpectedly nimble in town and stable at speed. Drivers generally adapt within a day.

The adaptive air suspension adjusts ride height for highways, city streets and rough ground, and the Cyberbeast is rated to tow up to 11,000 lb (about 4,990 kg). For owners with a boat at Kovalam or a farm on the city's outskirts, that is genuinely useful capability.

Interior & Technology

The Cybertruck's cabin centres on Tesla's software. The 18.5-inch front touchscreen runs climate, media, drive modes, suspension height and the tonneau cover. Back-seat passengers have a 9.4-inch screen, and a 15-speaker audio system delivers sound throughout.

  • Panoramic glass roof: makes the cabin bright, though a sunshade is a wise addition in Chennai's heat.
  • 48-volt electrical system: lighter and simpler than conventional 12-volt wiring.
  • Powershare outlets: 120V and 240V sockets in the cabin and bed, useful at a beach house on ECR or during a power cut.
  • Software-defined design: built to receive over-the-air updates, though connectivity and feature availability on an imported unit in India should be confirmed during inspection.

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is not available in India. Chennai owners should treat the Cybertruck as a vehicle they drive themselves at all times, with the driver aids providing support only.

Safety Features

The US NHTSA awarded the Cybertruck a five-star overall safety rating for the 2024 and 2025 model years. The stainless steel exoskeleton forms a key part of the structure, and the Armor Glass resists chips and impacts better than regular glass.

  • Automatic Emergency Braking: intervenes when a collision appears imminent.
  • Forward Collision Warning: an early alert in Chennai's dense traffic.
  • Lane departure avoidance: helpful on long ECR and highway drives.
  • Camera-based blind spot monitoring: important on a truck over 2 metres wide.
  • 360-degree camera coverage: useful for narrow gates and crowded car parks.
  • Front, side and curtain airbags for both rows of occupants.

The Cybertruck has been subject to several US recalls, addressing items such as the accelerator pedal, a trim panel, the light bar and wheel lug nuts. Big Boy Toyz checks the truck's recall and software status before sale.

Why Buying Used Is Smart

Importing a Cybertruck privately is a long and uncertain process: buying overseas, shipping, steep customs duties, homologation and finally registration, often stretching across months. Reports put the cost of Cybertrucks imported into India at around ₹5 crore.

Big Boy Toyz offers Chennai buyers a simpler route. BBT's Cyberbeast has already completed that journey: it is in the country, it has been through a multi-point inspection, and its import and ownership papers have been verified. You can see the exact truck, check its battery and software status, and move directly to financing and registration without waiting for a ship to dock.

Price Range in India

ModelPrice (₹)Notes for Chennai Buyers
Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast₹3.99 croreImported, unregistered unit available through Big Boy Toyz. Registration is done in the buyer's name, and costs vary by state.

BBT's price is the same in every city. Road tax and registration charges depend on the state of registration, so contact BBT for guidance on registering in Tamil Nadu and for the latest availability. The nearest showroom is on Residency Road in Bengaluru.

Ownership Cost

The Cybertruck's running costs in Chennai look very different from those of a large petrol or diesel luxury vehicle. Energy and routine maintenance are inexpensive, while insurance and tyres need a realistic budget.

  • Charging: filling the battery at home costs roughly ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 at typical domestic tariffs. For a daily commute from Besant Nagar to an OMR office, that covers several days of driving.
  • Maintenance: no oil, spark plugs or exhaust. Costs centre on tyres, brakes, suspension components and cabin filters. Specialist EV and import workshops do the work, and BBT's after-sales team can guide you to them.
  • Insurance: approximately ₹7 lakh to ₹10 lakh a year for comprehensive cover. Given Chennai's flood risk, discuss flood and water-damage cover in detail with your insurer.
  • Tyres: expect about ₹40,000 to ₹70,000 for each of the big all-terrain tyres. Hot tarmac and monsoon-damaged roads make regular checks important.
  • Body care: a clear or coloured PPF wrap is recommended. Stainless steel resists corrosion, but film makes it far easier to clean off salt and grime.
  • Charging point: budget for a wallbox installation, ideally mounted above any likely flood level.

Overall, the Cybertruck is economical to run day to day for a vehicle of its class. For Chennai owners, the key commitments are insurance, protecting the charging set-up from monsoon flooding, and building a relationship with a specialist workshop, which BBT can help you find.

Covered parking is the single most useful habit here. Keeping the truck out of the direct afternoon sun reduces the cooling load on the cabin and battery, and keeping it on higher ground during heavy rain warnings protects the most valuable component in the truck.

Competitors

Chennai buyers considering the Cybertruck usually compare it with a handful of other statement vehicles.

  • GMC Hummer EV: the Cybertruck's fellow American electric giant, with around 830 hp and the sideways-crawling CrabWalk mode.
  • Mercedes-AMG G63: the iconic luxury off-roader, more traditional and less outspoken in design.
  • Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: a respected, durable full-size SUV for buyers who value reliability over spectacle.
  • Rivian R1T: an electric adventure pickup that can reach India only as a private import.
  • Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV: electric pickups with familiar styling.
  • Ford F-150 Raptor and RAM TRX: high-performance petrol pickups with a loyal collector following.

Chennai buyers planning a visit to the nearest showroom can also see the Tesla Cybertruck in Bengaluru page. None of the alternatives offers the Cybertruck's combination of stainless steel construction, steer-by-wire and Cyberbeast performance.

The Brand Experience

Tesla redefined what an electric car could be. The 2008 Roadster made EVs exciting, the Model S made them luxurious, and the Model 3 and Model Y made them common sights on roads worldwide. Over-the-air updates and minimalist, screen-led interiors became Tesla trademarks.

Tesla entered India in July 2025 with the Model Y. The Cybertruck is not part of that range, which makes an imported Cyberbeast in Chennai a vehicle very few will ever see up close.

Notable Brand Lineup

Tesla's global range covers sedans, SUVs and trucks, with the Model Y leading its official Indian line-up.

  • Model 3: the compact sedan that made Tesla mainstream.
  • Model S: the original luxury sedan.
  • Model Y: the crossover offered by Tesla India.
  • Model X: the large SUV with falcon-wing doors.
  • Cybertruck: the angular stainless pickup, which reaches Indian roads only through imports.
  • Tesla Semi: the electric heavy truck for logistics.

Tesla also produces home batteries, solar products and charging equipment.

Why Trust Big Boy Toyz

With no official sales or service network for the Cybertruck in India, the seller's diligence is crucial. Big Boy Toyz has more than a decade of experience in luxury pre-owned cars. Chennai buyers can work with BBT directly, and BBT's nearest showroom is in Richmond Town, Bengaluru.
