Nissan Patrol Y63 - Seventy Years of Desert Legend, Rebuilt for a New Generation

Overview

The Nissan Patrol has been in continuous production since 1951, and few nameplates carry the same weight in the Middle East, Australia and Africa. The Y63 is the seventh generation of that story. It was revealed in Abu Dhabi in September 2024 and went on sale in the GCC in November 2024, replacing the much-loved Y62 V8.

The new Patrol keeps everything buyers loved about the old one: body-on-frame toughness, a proper low-range four-wheel-drive system and room for eight. Around that core, Nissan has built a far more modern SUV, with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that makes more torque than the outgoing 5.6-litre V8, a cabin dominated by twin 14.3-inch displays, and a full suite of driver assistance. It sits squarely against the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 and the Lexus LX, and for Indian buyers who want something rarer than either, the Y63 Patrol is one of the most compelling luxury off-roaders on sale.

Model Features

  • 3.5L twin-turbo V6 (VR35DDTT): 425 hp and 700 Nm on LE trims; a 3.8L naturally aspirated V6 with 316 hp powers the SE trims
  • 9-speed automatic with full-time 4WD, low range, rear differential lock and hill descent control
  • Six drive modes: Standard, Eco, Sport, Sand, Mud/Rut and Rock
  • Twin 14.3-inch "Monolith" displays forming a 28.6-inch digital dashboard, with Google built-in
  • Klipsch premium audio with 12 speakers on higher trims
  • 3D Around View Monitor with Invisible Hood View for seeing the trail beneath the bonnet
  • ProPILOT Assist and a full ADAS suite on Titanium and Platinum trims
  • Adaptive air suspension (optional) with height adjustment, plus electronically controlled dampers
  • Panoramic roof, 64-colour ambient lighting, power-folding third row and seating for eight

Variants

In the GCC, from where most Indian Patrols are imported, the Y63 is sold in two engine families and several trim levels. The trim decides the equipment far more than the engine, so it is worth knowing exactly which version you are looking at.

  • SE trims (3.8L V6): XE, SE T2, SE Titanium and SE Platinum City
  • LE trims (3.5L twin-turbo V6): LE T1, LE T2, LE Titanium, LE Titanium+ and the flagship LE Platinum City
  • PRO-4X: an off-road focused twin-turbo version
  • Patrol NISMO: the 2026 performance flagship, with the twin-turbo V6 tuned to 495 hp

Most buyers in India gravitate towards the LE Titanium and LE Platinum City, which combine the twin-turbo engine with the full screen package, Klipsch audio and the complete ADAS suite.

Colours

Nissan offers the Y63 Patrol in seven body colours, along with four two-tone combinations that pair the body colour with a contrasting black roof. Popular choices on imported cars include:

  • Pearl White
  • Black Pearl
  • Grey Metallic
  • Blue Metallic

The NISMO adds an exclusive Stealth Grey, and every NISMO colour can be specified with a black roof. Exact colour availability varies by trim and model year, so check the specific car in our stock for its factory finish.

Fuel Efficiency and Mileage

The Patrol is a 2.7-tonne, full-size 4x4, and its fuel consumption reflects that. Rated figures are around 10 km/l for the 3.5L twin-turbo and roughly 9.7 km/l for the 3.8L V6. In real-world Indian conditions, expect:

  • City driving: approximately 5 to 6 km/l
  • Highway driving: approximately 8 to 9 km/l

That is still a noticeable step up from the old 5.6-litre V8, and the 97-litre tank gives the Patrol a comfortable touring range between fills.

Design and Comfort

The Y63 is unmistakably a Patrol, but its design language is all new. A broad, squared-off grille with the signature "V-motion" bars, slim LED headlamps and a near-vertical tail give it a monolithic, architectural presence. At roughly 5.2 metres long with a 3,075 mm wheelbase, it occupies the same space as the biggest luxury SUVs on Indian roads.

Ground clearance is 244 mm on 18-inch wheels and 253 mm on 20-inch wheels, and the approach angle reaches 32 degrees on 18-inch trims, numbers that matter on broken roads, flooded underpasses and farmhouse driveways alike. Inside, all three rows are usable by adults, the third row folds electrically, and boot space grows from about 577 litres behind the third row to over 2,700 litres with both rear rows folded. Front seats offer Biometric Cooling, and top trims add massage functions and quilted leather.

Performance & Engine

The heart of the LE Patrol is the 3.5-litre VR35DDTT twin-turbo V6, producing 425 hp and 700 Nm. Nissan quotes this as 7 percent more power and 25 percent more torque than the old 5.6-litre V8, and it is delivered from much lower in the rev range. The result is a Patrol that pulls hard from a standstill, overtakes with ease and covers 0 to 100 km/h in around 6.7 seconds, very quick for a body-on-frame SUV of this size.

The SE trims use a 3.8-litre V6 with 316 hp and 386 Nm, which is smooth and adequate but noticeably less effortless. Both engines drive through a 9-speed automatic and a full four-wheel-drive system with low range, a rear diff lock and six terrain modes. The new Patrol NISMO raises output to 495 hp for those who want the ultimate version.

Interior & Technology

Step inside and the Y63 feels like a different class of vehicle from its predecessor. Two 14.3-inch screens sit under a single glass panel to form the 28.6-inch "Monolith" display, combining the digital instrument cluster with a Google built-in infotainment system that brings native Google Maps, Assistant and Play Store apps.

  • Head-up display and massage seats on Platinum City trims
  • 12-speaker Klipsch premium audio
  • 64-colour ambient lighting and a panoramic roof
  • Optional dual 12.8-inch rear entertainment screens for second-row passengers
  • 3D Around View Monitor with Invisible Hood View, which shows the ground beneath the front of the car

Safety Features

The Y63 brings the Patrol fully up to date on safety, with seven airbags including a driver knee airbag. Titanium and Platinum trims add the complete Nissan Safety Shield suite:

  • Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection
  • Rear Automatic Braking
  • Blind Spot Warning and Blind Spot Intervention
  • Lane Departure Warning and Intelligent Lane Intervention
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Driver attention alert
  • ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with steering support

The Patrol has not been crash-tested by Euro NCAP or ANCAP, but its US-market twin, the 2025 Nissan Armada, earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.

Why Buying Used Is Smart

Because Nissan has not launched the Y63 in India, every Patrol here arrives as a private import. Doing that yourself means sourcing the car abroad, managing shipping, customs duty, homologation and registration, and waiting months with no guarantee of the trim or colour you wanted.

Buying through Big Boy Toyz removes that risk. The cars in our stock are already in India, inspected and documented, so you can see, drive and verify the exact Patrol before you commit. With the Y63 still in its first years of production, imported examples are nearly new, giving you the latest generation without the waiting list.

Price Range in India

The Nissan Patrol Y63 is available at Big Boy Toyz from ₹2.50 crore to ₹3.30 crore, depending on trim, specification and condition.

Ownership Cost

Here is what to expect when owning a Nissan Patrol Y63 in India:

  • Service and maintenance: approximately ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh a year at specialist workshops, depending on usage
  • Insurance: approximately ₹5 lakh to ₹8 lakh a year for comprehensive cover, based on the insured value
  • Fuel: at around 6 to 8 km/l in mixed driving, budget roughly ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh for 12,000 km a year
  • Tyres: large 20 to 22-inch SUV tyres cost about ₹40,000 to ₹70,000 each

Nissan's VR-series engines and 4x4 hardware have a strong reliability record in harsh GCC conditions, which helps keep long-term ownership predictable.

Competitors

The Patrol Y63 competes with the biggest names in luxury off-roading:

  • Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: its eternal rival, with a twin-turbo diesel V6 in India and legendary resale value
  • Lexus LX: the luxury version of the Land Cruiser, more opulent but less distinctive
  • Range Rover: more upmarket in feel, but with higher running costs and less rugged hardware
  • Mercedes-Benz GLS: a road-focused luxury three-row SUV
  • GMC Yukon Denali: the American alternative with a 6.2L V8

The Patrol's advantage is rarity, a cutting-edge cabin and twin-turbo performance, packaged in a body-on-frame 4x4 that has proven itself in the toughest deserts on earth.

The Brand Experience

Nissan's Patrol story began in 1951 with the 4W60, a rugged four-wheel-drive utility vehicle. Over the following decades, the Patrol became the vehicle of choice for aid agencies, desert explorers and Gulf royalty alike. It won the diesel class of the 1987 Paris-Dakar Rally and finished ninth overall, the first diesel ever to make the top ten, and it went on to win the Australian Safari multiple times.

In the Middle East, the Patrol is more than a car. It is a cultural icon, the vehicle families trust for dune bashing, long desert crossings and everyday luxury. The Y63 carries that legacy forward, with "Since 1951" projected by its puddle lamps as a reminder of where it comes from.

Notable Brand Lineup

Nissan's global lineup spans everyday cars, electric vehicles and some of Japan's most iconic performance machines:

  • Performance: Nissan GT-R, Nissan Z
  • SUVs: X-Trail, Pathfinder, Armada, Patrol
  • Electric: Ariya, Leaf
  • India: Magnite, X-Trail

The Patrol sits at the very top of Nissan's SUV range, with the Infiniti QX80 as its luxury-brand sibling built on the same platform.
