Nissan Patrol Y63 in Ahmedabad: Built for Heat, Ready for the Rann

Overview

Many of Ahmedabad's business families have a direct line to the Gulf, through trade, family members or frequent trips to Dubai. They have seen what the Nissan Patrol means there: the car of choice for desert outings, large families and anyone who wants quiet authority on the road. The new Y63 Patrol carries that reputation into a far more modern package, and Ahmedabad, with its fierce summers, fast highways and growing appetite for distinctive luxury cars, is an ideal setting for it.

The Y63 is the seventh generation of a name that began in 1951. Nissan revealed it in Abu Dhabi in September 2024 and launched it across the GCC in November 2024, replacing the Y62 V8. The new Patrol uses a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 on LE trims and a 3.8-litre V6 on SE trims, and its redesigned cabin is built around two 14.3-inch screens, Google built-in and a full suite of driver assistance on higher trims.

Ahmedabad's conditions play to its strengths. When the mercury crosses 45 degrees, a cabin engineered for Gulf summers stops being a selling point and becomes a daily necessity. The city's wide western corridors, SG Highway, Sindhu Bhavan Road and the roads towards Gandhinagar and GIFT City, suit the Patrol's size perfectly, and the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway gives the twin-turbo room to stretch. Further afield, the salt desert of the Rann of Kutch is about as close as Gujarat gets to the Patrol's natural habitat.

Nissan India's dealers sell the Magnite and X-Trail, but Nissan India does not sell or officially service the Patrol Y63. The car is available through Big Boy Toyz as an imported vehicle with verified documentation, and Ahmedabad buyers can contact BBT's showroom at Lal Darwaja in the Old City to arrange a viewing, compare trims and discuss Gujarat registration.

Model Features

The Patrol Y63 packs a lot into its imposing body. Here is how its key features line up for an Ahmedabad owner:

  • Twin-turbo performance: the VR35DDTT 3.5-litre V6 on LE trims produces 425 hp and 700 Nm, enough for 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds
  • Simpler alternative: the 3.8-litre V6 on SE trims delivers 316 hp and 386 Nm and reaches 100 km/h in about 7.8 seconds
  • Built for extreme heat: Biometric Cooling for front occupants and a climate system developed for Gulf summers
  • Serious 4x4: a 9-speed automatic, full-time four-wheel drive, low range, a rear differential lock and hill descent control
  • Six drive modes: Standard, Eco, Sport, Sand, Mud/Rut and Rock, with Sand mode designed for exactly the kind of terrain the Patrol grew up on
  • Clearance: 244 mm on 18-inch wheels and 253 mm on 20-inch wheels, with a 32-degree approach angle on 18-inch trims
  • Range: a 97-litre fuel tank for long Gujarat highway journeys
  • Digital cockpit: the 28.6-inch Monolith display with Google built-in, including Google Maps and Assistant
  • Audio: a 12-speaker Klipsch system on SE Titanium and higher trims
  • Driver assistance: ProPILOT Assist on Titanium and Platinum trims, ideal for expressway cruising
  • Cameras: 3D Around View Monitor and Invisible Hood View
  • Comfort: eight seats, a power-folding third row, optional adaptive air suspension, a panoramic roof and 64-colour ambient lighting

It is a specification that makes sense in a state where temperatures are extreme, distances are long and families are large.

Variants

Most Patrols that reach India are GCC-specification cars, and they use Nissan's Gulf trim names. Ahmedabad buyers who travel to Dubai regularly will probably recognise many of them.

  • 3.8L V6 line-up: XE, SE T2, SE Titanium and SE Platinum City
  • 3.5L twin-turbo line-up: LE T1, LE T2, LE Titanium, LE Titanium+ and LE Platinum City
  • PRO-4X: a twin-turbo model with an off-road emphasis
  • Patrol NISMO: the 2026 model-year performance flagship, rated at 495 hp

For Ahmedabad, the twin-turbo LE trims are usually the better buy, particularly for owners who drive the expressway to Vadodara or head out on long trips across Gujarat. The LE Titanium offers the best value, while the LE Platinum City adds a head-up display, massage seats and quilted leather for families who want the most luxurious Patrol.

Colours

The Y63 is available in seven body colours and four two-tone combinations with a black roof. Shades often seen on imported cars include:

  • Pearl White: the best choice for Ahmedabad's summer, reflecting heat and staying cooler when parked
  • Black Pearl: formal and striking, though it absorbs a lot of heat in the sun
  • Grey Metallic: a practical shade that hides the dust common in Gujarat's dry months
  • Blue Metallic: a distinctive option for those who want to stand out

The NISMO adds an exclusive Stealth Grey. Availability depends on trim and model year, so confirm the colour of any specific car with BBT.

Fuel Efficiency and Mileage

The Patrol is a 2.7-tonne SUV, and Ahmedabad buyers, who tend to look closely at running costs, should know what to expect. Rated figures are about 10.1 km/l for the twin-turbo and 9.7 km/l for the 3.8-litre, but real-world numbers are lower:

  • City: about 5 to 6 km/l in traffic around Ashram Road, CG Road or the busy junctions of SG Highway
  • Highway: about 8 to 9 km/l on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway or the highway towards Rajkot

Summer driving, with the air conditioning running at full power, will push city consumption to the lower end of that range. The 97-litre tank gives a long range on Gujarat's highways, making trips to Vadodara, Udaipur or Saputara straightforward without frequent stops.

Compared with the old 5.6-litre V8 Patrol, the Y63 is noticeably more efficient, and the twin-turbo's strong low-down torque means it rarely needs to work hard on the highway. Using Eco mode in traffic and Standard on the open road is the simplest way to keep costs in check.

Design and Comfort

The Y63 is a bold reinvention of the Patrol's look. A broad, flat grille with heavy horizontal bars and slim LED lamps creates a strong, modern face, the sides are clean and slab-like, and the rear is squared off and upright. It looks architectural, a fitting style for a city whose newer skyline, from the riverfront to GIFT City, has changed so dramatically in recent years.

The Patrol is big: about 5,205 mm long, 2,030 mm wide and close to 1,950 mm tall, on a 3,075 mm wheelbase. That suits the bungalows and gated communities of Bodakdev, Thaltej, Bopal and Prahladnagar, and the wide roads of the western city. The pols and narrow lanes of the Old City are another matter, so plan routes accordingly and check parking clearance at your home and office.

Underneath, the Patrol is built for rough ground. Ground clearance is 244 mm or 253 mm depending on wheel size, with a 32-degree approach angle and 25.5-degree departure angle on 18-inch trims. Unpaved access roads to farmhouses on the city's outskirts, broken stretches during the monsoon and long drives into rural Gujarat are all handled with ease. Waterlogged roads during heavy rain should still be approached carefully, as with any car.

The cabin seats eight across three rows, all usable by adults, and the third row folds electrically. Boot space ranges from about 577 litres to roughly 2,749 litres with the rear rows folded, enough for a large family's luggage on a trip to Kutch or Somnath. Biometric Cooling adds comfort for the front occupants, and Platinum City trims bring quilted leather and massage seats. In an Ahmedabad summer, a cabin designed to stay comfortable in Gulf heat is one of the Patrol's most valuable features.

Performance & Engine

The VR35DDTT 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 is the engine to have. It produces 425 hp and 700 Nm, which Nissan says is 7 percent more power and 25 percent more torque than the old 5.6-litre V8. The torque comes in early, so the Patrol feels strong at low speeds and pulls effortlessly when you join SG Highway or overtake on the expressway.

The twin-turbo Patrol accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h. On the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway, it cruises quietly in a tall gear, and the 9-speed automatic responds quickly when you need extra pace. For a body-on-frame SUV of this size, it is impressively quick.

SE trims use the 3.8-litre V6, which produces 316 hp and 386 Nm and reaches 100 km/h in about 7.8 seconds. It is smooth and well suited to city driving, though the twin-turbo is far more relaxed with a full load on a long highway run. At the top of the range, the 2026 Patrol NISMO raises output to 495 hp.

All Y63 Patrols have full-time four-wheel drive with low range, a rear differential lock, hill descent control and six drive modes. A trip to the Rann of Kutch shows why that matters: the long highway drive suits the twin-turbo, and the Patrol's ground clearance and terrain modes give confidence on the rougher approach roads. Closer to home, the climb to Saputara or the forest roads around Polo Forest are easy work for a vehicle designed to cross deserts.

Interior & Technology

The Y63's cabin is dominated by the Monolith display, two 14.3-inch screens under a single glass panel with a combined size of 28.6 inches. It combines the digital instrument cluster with Google built-in infotainment, so Google Maps, Google Assistant and Play Store apps are part of the car rather than borrowed from your phone.

  • Klipsch premium audio with 12 speakers on SE Titanium and higher trims
  • Head-up display and massage seats on Platinum City trims
  • Panoramic roof and 64-colour ambient lighting, perfect for evening drives along the Sabarmati Riverfront
  • Optional twin 12.8-inch rear entertainment screens for second-row passengers on long trips
  • 3D Around View Monitor with Invisible Hood View, helpful in tight parking and on uneven ground

On long Gujarat highway journeys, such as a family trip to Dwarka or Gir, the rear entertainment screens keep younger passengers occupied while the driver benefits from ProPILOT Assist and the head-up display.

Safety Features

Ahmedabad's mix of fast highways and busy city junctions demands a strong safety package. The Y63 has seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, and Titanium and Platinum trims add the full Nissan Safety Shield suite:

  • Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection
  • Rear Automatic Braking
  • Blind Spot Warning and Blind Spot Intervention
  • Lane Departure Warning and Intelligent Lane Intervention, useful on long, straight Gujarat highways
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Driver attention alert, valuable on monotonous expressway drives
  • ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with steering support

The Patrol has not been crash-tested by Euro NCAP or ANCAP, but its US-market twin, the 2025 Nissan Armada, earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, a good indicator of the platform's crash protection.

Why Buying Used Is Smart

Some Ahmedabad buyers with Dubai connections consider importing a Patrol themselves. In reality, that means buying a car abroad, shipping it to an Indian port, paying customs duty, completing homologation and registering it in Gujarat, with paperwork in two countries and months of waiting. Mistakes in documentation can delay registration for a long time.

Big Boy Toyz makes the process far simpler. Every Patrol is inspected at multiple points and comes with verified import and ownership documentation, and you can ask BBT to arrange a viewing of the exact car before committing. Because the Y63 has been on sale only since late 2024, imported examples are nearly new. BBT's specialists in Ahmedabad can also explain the differences between GCC trims, so you know exactly what equipment you are paying for, an important point for value-conscious buyers.

Price Range in India

Through Big Boy Toyz, the Nissan Patrol Y63 is priced from ₹2.50 crore to ₹3.30 crore, depending on engine, trim and condition. Ahmedabad buyers pay the same price as buyers anywhere else in India.

VersionApprox. Price at BBT (₹)Notes
SE models with the 3.8L V6From ₹2.50 croreThe entry point to the Y63, with its full cabin and eight seats
LE models with the 3.5L twin-turboUp to ₹3.30 croreTwin-turbo performance, led by the LE Platinum City

The Patrol is supplied unregistered, so buyers register it in their own state. Road tax and registration charges vary by state, and BBT's team at Lal Darwaja can explain the process for a Gujarat registration.

Ownership Cost

Ahmedabad buyers like to know the full picture before they commit. These are the approximate annual costs for a Y63 Patrol in India:

  1. Service and maintenance: the typical bill at specialist workshops is ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh a year, varying with usage. Ahmedabad's summer heat puts extra strain on the cooling system, battery and air conditioning, so have them checked before April.
  2. Insurance: comprehensive cover generally costs ₹5 lakh to ₹8 lakh a year, depending on the declared insured value. Engine-protection cover is worth considering for heavy monsoon spells, when some roads flood.
  3. Fuel: fuel for 12,000 km a year costs roughly ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh, based on 6 to 8 km/l in mixed driving. Frequent expressway driving helps the average.
  4. Tyres: 20 to 22-inch SUV tyres cost about ₹40,000 to ₹70,000 each. Hot road surfaces wear tyres faster, so check pressures and condition regularly.

Nissan India does not sell or officially service the Patrol Y63, so maintenance is carried out by specialist workshops experienced with imported vehicles. BBT's after-sales team in Ahmedabad can guide you towards suitable options and help with parts and service questions.

Long-term, the Patrol's engineering is reassuring. Nissan's VR-series engines and 4x4 hardware have a strong reliability record in the GCC, where summer heat is even more severe than in Gujarat and sand is a daily challenge. That record helps keep the Patrol's ownership costs predictable, which matters to buyers who think carefully about value.

Competitors

Ahmedabad's luxury SUV buyers usually compare the Patrol Y63 with:

  • Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: the Patrol's long-time rival, valued for reliability and resale
  • Lexus LX: a plusher Land Cruiser, with a more luxurious cabin but less individuality
  • Range Rover Vogue: a prestigious choice, but more expensive to run and less rugged
  • Mercedes-Benz GLS: a refined, road-focused three-row SUV
  • GMC Hummer EV: another imported statement vehicle, electric and enormous, for buyers who want maximum attention

The Patrol's case in Ahmedabad rests on its Gulf-proven durability, its ability to cope with extreme heat, and a level of technology and performance that matches or beats its rivals, combined with rarity that its more familiar competitors cannot offer.

The Brand Experience

The Patrol was born in 1951 as the 4W60, a rugged four-wheel-drive utility. Over seven decades it has become one of the most trusted off-roaders in the world, used by aid agencies, explorers and families across the Gulf, Australia and Africa. It won the diesel class at the 1987 Paris-Dakar Rally, finishing ninth overall as the first diesel in the top ten, and claimed Australian Safari wins in 1992, 1993, 1995 and 2003.

In the Gulf, the Patrol is woven into family life and desert culture, a fact well known to Ahmedabad's many Dubai regulars. The Y63 honours that heritage with puddle lamps that project "Since 1951" onto the ground, while its technology looks firmly ahead.
