Volvo Unveiled its V90 Cross Country; India Launch Expected in 2017

If you are taking the new Volvo V90 as a new iteration to your father’s station wagon, you are highly mistaken in that case. It is more adventurous, more powerful and above all more beautiful yet manly. But don’t worry as the new V90 Cross Country will give you enough reasons to swoon over it. With the unveiling of V90, the Swedish automaker has completed the roll-out of its 90 series, which include S90 and XC90. Volvo V90 will start at $55,300; however, there is no update on its pricing in India.

The new member in the Volvo 90 series is an important part of the company’s strategy to enhance its portfolio for more adventure-loving people. To support this, the V90 comes with a raised ride height, automatic wheel drive powertrain and specifically optimized chassis to handle extreme conditions on various terrains, especially the off-the-beaten-path roads full of mud or gravel or both.

To ensure the toughness and power of the vehicle, the company tested it in extreme conditions that vary from the chilling winters of Sweden to the scorching heat of the Arizona’s desert. Though the company focused on making this beast a perfect fit for adventurous rides, no compromise has been made to the comfort and poshness of the vehicle.

The all new Volvo V90 comes with a slew of new safety features, which include collision avoidance, driver alert (in case of swerve), blind spot detection and lane departure warning. The distinctive feature of the Volvo V90, that is, Thor’s Hammer daytime running lamps along with the signature grille, 19-inch alloy wheels and huge wheels are also a part of this Cross Country SUV, which altogether make this piece of machine a man’s desire. The company has also added an extra height of 65mm alongside additional covering to the outer body.

IThe Senior Vice President of Design at Volvo Cars, Thomas Ingenlath shared his views at the time of unveiling, “Designing a Volvo Cross Country is not a styling exercise, a plastic job. It is based on honest capability.” He further added, “It will continue the genuine tradition of the Volvo Cross Country with a new recipe: The blend of powerful off-road capability in a most elegant, sophisticated, tailored wagon suit.”

From the inside, Volvo V90 Cross Country comes with a well-decked cabin with a touch of simplicity that is the part of the standard V90 too. Other essential features include a 9-inch tablet-like central touch-sensitive display, a 12.3-inch LCD driver display cluster and above all the stellar Bowers&Wilkins music system to make your trips entertaining and full of fun.

The Volvo V90 is only a 5-seater as compared to its recently launched sibling, XC90, but the boot space is big enough to accommodate a small house inside it (metaphorically).

As far as the heart of the performance-oriented V90 is concerned, the company has chosen to maintain the mystery around by not revealing the configuration, but hats off to the petrol heads, who have figured out that the car might come with Volvo’s T6 AWD inline 4-cylinder (turbocharged and supercharged) motor. The engine will be able to churn out a peak power of 316PS @5700rpm and a maximum torque of 295ft/lb @2200rpm.

The recently unveiled Volvo V90 Cross Country is the perfect vehicle for climbing steep hills ever coupled with fun and adventure. The SUV is likely to hit the markets of India next year, that is, in 2017.
