Volvo India Launches S60 Cross Country at Rs. 38.9 Lakh

The new year celebrations for the Swedish car manufacturer, Volvo, has finally kick-started with the launch of its highly awaited S60 Cross Country that is actually a pure amalgamation of SUV and sedan. Thanks to the rugged appearance, the cross comes out to be an unconventional model as compared to the other contemporaries in the same segment of luxury sedan. The price of Volvo S60 Cross Country in India is Rs. 38.9 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi & Mumbai, sans octroi).

S60 Cross Country is an entry-level sedan based on its elder sibling S60. The new member of Volvo's S-class family also shares majority of looks from the standard model where the gorgeous character lines are stretched in the newer version bearing the SUV-like body cover, different grille and faux-brushed skid plates in matte silver color at either end.

Among the changes that are done in this cross model, increased ground clearance of 201mm is the prominent one, which is 65mm higher as compared to the standard S60. The Swede carmaker has also provided bigger alloy wheels wrapped in much thicker rubber with 18-inch and 19-inch as optional. The design looks more aggressive with balanced proportions and without any nonsense touch, though one cannot compare it with the looks of BMW 3-series nor does it has that posh-feel like Mercedes, still S60 has that appeal to stand out in the crowd.

In terms of design, it is not the regular one that we see in everyday sedans; hence its honeycomb grille, slender headlamps and tail lamps with L-shape can make its entry in the Indian market a successful one seeing the inclination of country's population towards all things SUV.

From the inside, the business is same like the other Volvo offsprings. The center console holds the same keypad design that is the USP of the Swedish cars. On the other hand, the centre infotainment screen, embedded in the dashboard, is compatible to many vital features such as navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, parking sensor with reverse camera, etc. As far as the comfort is concern, ergonomically designed electric seats having leather upholstery, stellar audio system, dual-zone climate control, etc. are some of the features supportable in the saloon.

Volvo S60 Cross Country comes with single option of 2.4-liter 5-cylinder D4 powerhouse that is mated to a 6-speed automatic tranny with AWD and can churn out a maximum power of 187bhp and a peak torque of 420Nm, which is comparatively lower than the standard model having 212bhp of power and 440Nm of torque. However, change in power is unlikely to impact the performance of the new cross. In 8.8 seconds, the Cross Country can make a sprint from 0 to 100kmph and can attain a top speed of 210kmph.

The Volvo S60 Cross Country will compete against the likes of sporty or luxurious sedans, namely Audi A4, Jaguar XE, BMW 3-series and Mercedes C-class. It will touch the Indian shores through CBU route and is expected to find its way to the hearts of affluent Indians.
