BMW India introduced the petrol variants of X3 and X5 SUVs in India on Wednesday. This is the second time the German luxury carmaker has introduced the petrol variants. Earlier, back in May 2016, the company launched the 320i and 520i sedans in the petrol options and now it’s the turn of SUVs. Both the avatars come with the next-gen TwinPower turbo petrol engines and will be assembled locally in Chennai at the BMW’s manufacturing plant.
Only the xLine grade will be offered in the petrol version in X3, whereas in X5, the petrol engine will be available solely in the Design Pure Experience variant. In terms of pricing, the company has tagged the X3 xDrive28i xLine with a price of Rs. 54.90 lakh, while the 5-seater X5 xDrive35i Design Pure Experience is available for Rs. 73.50 lakh. Both the prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi.
The ex-showroom Delhi prices of the X3 diesel variants are:
- X3 xDrive30d M Sport – Rs. 61 lakh
- X3 xDrive20d xLine – Rs. 53.90 lakh
- X3 xDrive20d Expedition – Rs. 30.99 lakh
The middleweight SUV from the house of BMW, the X3, features a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that is capable of throwing out a power of 245PS alongside a peak torque of 350Nm. These figures make it easy to achieve a target of 0-100kmph in 6.5 seconds only – the speed that matches to the ironic Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC. To send the power to all the four wheels, the engine is synced with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Talking about the features, the BMW X3 offers daytime running LEDs around the bi-xenon headlights, panoramic glass roof, LED foglights and a climate control with 2 zone. The iconic BMW iDrive infotainment system with touchscreen is also a part of the offer with navigation and to make the traveling fun in this luxurious SUV, the company has added a 205W, 9-speaker surround sound system.
Color options available include Black Sapphire, Alpine White (non-metallic), Melbourne Red and Deep Blue.
Coming to the higher version of SUV, the BMW X5 works amazingly well with the 3.0-litre inline turbo petrol mill with 6 cylinders. The motor churns out massive numbers of 310PS and 400Nm for power and torque, respectively.
The powermill is mated to an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic tranny that delivers power to all the 4 wheels of the vehicle equally. A sprint of 0-100kmph will take only 6.5 seconds, which is similar to its X3 sibling and is only lagging by only 0.5 seconds from GLE400 MATIC launched back in August this year at a price of Rs. 74.90 lakh.
Powered tailgate, adaptive LED headlights, a 4-zone climate control and integrated LED indicators in heated wing mirrors are some of the exclusive features this beast comes with. The iDrive infotainment system with touchscreen and a Harman Kardon 600W with 16-speaker surround sound system make your journey fun and full of enjoyment.
As far as the prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) of X5 diesel avatars are concerned, all are mentioned below:
- X5 xDrive30d M Sport – Rs. 78.50 lakh
- 7-seater X5 xDrive30d Design Pure Experience – Rs. 76 lakh
- X5 xDrive30d Design Pure Experience – Rs. 72.90 lakh
- X5 xDrive30d Expedition – Rs. 67.90 lakh
Both the BMW SUVs have safety features in common, which include airbags for driver and front passenger along with head airbags and side airbags, head airbags for rear passengers, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Traction Control (CBC), Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake assist, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), electronic parking brake with auto hold and electronic vehicle immobilizer.
Now the car aficionados are eagerly waiting for the petrol avatars of the mighty X1 and X6 but when they will make the news, only BMW can tell. Till then keep reading!
