The world renown American electric car pioneer Tesla has been working on something else for a change, apart from making eco friendly cars. Recently during a press conference held at Los Angeles, United States of America, the company's founder Elon Musk quoted that with the introduction of this new technology- Powerwall, the entire energy infrastructure of the world will change for good.
What is Powerwall ?
Powerwall is a device that is capable of storing energy from the solar panel grids and the traditional electricity grid during the night (because it is much cheaper at night). The main purpose of powerwall is to save this energy and stockpile it in order to provide a secure back-up during the inevitable power cuts.
Theoretically, this well planned idea of creating a "powerwall" is kind of a genius move especially when the overall energy consumption rate just keeps increasing day by day.They have developed a device that would fit on to a wall(say for instance the garage wall or the roof wall) which will ensure that the solar powered homes turn out to be completely independent of the general energy supply grid.
This Powerwall will hit the market in 10 kWh weekly cycle and 7 kWh daily cycle models. Both of these models shall be guaranteed for 10 years by Tesla and will be sufficient to power most of the homes.
The main aim is to be able to transform the entire energy infrastructure to a sustainable zero carbon environment. During the press conference, Elon showcased what exactly the device looks like, fitted on one side of the conference hall. Apparently, the viewers were taken aback by this innovation and gave positive feedbacks quoting that the device seemed like a beautiful sculpture on the wall.
Tesla is planning to roll out this device pretty soon, hitting the global market by next year. The device will be first released in the US at a price of $3,500 by the end of 2015.
Nations like Germany, wherein solar energy is used extensively have been targeted as a key market for launching the product.
