Introducing the all new diesel engine of 2.0-litre to the Indian automobile market, the German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz, has today launched the 3rd member of the E-Class, named as E 220d, in India at a price of Rs. 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The new member of the E-Class family finds its place somewhere between the already existing petrol-powered E 200 priced at Rs. 56.15 lakh and diesel-operated E 350d tagged for a price of Rs. 69.47 lakh. The car has been listed on the official website of Mercedes-Benz India.
E 220d comes with an all new 2.0-litre diesel engine, replacing the older one unit of 2.1-litre. It is the first engine by Mercedes to have an all aluminium chassis and comes with 4 cylinder functionality. This motor can thrust a maximum power of 194PS alongside a peak torque of 400Nm and is synced with a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic tranny to send energy to the rear wheels. This setup enables the luxury sedan to make a sprint of 0-100Kmph in 7.8 seconds and can attain a top speed of 240Kmph.
The new engine not only makes the Mercedes-Benz E 220d a hot-seller in the market among its peers but also its top-of-the-line comfort features enables this saloon to have a strong foothold in the tough competition. Akin to its younger sibling E 200, the E 220d supports a host of features, which include chauffeur package with memory option, 12.3-inch high resolution touchscreen, Android Auto Support and Apple CarPlay, 7 airbags, self-park technology, panoramic sunroof, rear seats with reclining technology and comfort headrest, multi-functional steering wheel wrapped in leather, 17-inch alloy wheels, windscreen wipers with rain sensors, DRLs and taillights, and LED-powered headlights.
Mercedes-Benz E 220d, the 5th generation of the E-Class, is an executive sedan that is 185mm long and has a wheelbase of 205mm, which makes the car really spacious. This provides a whole lot of legroom to the rear passengers. For the unversed, E-Class is the only class offering the extended wheelbase in its segment.
The company is offering services packages along with this luxury saloon that starts from a base price of Rs. 76,600 for 2 years along with Advance Assurance Program wherein it is providing an extended warranty of 6 years at an additional price of Rs. 75,200.
Going by the price bracket it is offered in, the competitors existing in the market for E 220d are Jaguar XF, Lexus ES300h, Volvo S90, Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.
