The largest and one of the oldest carmakers, Mercedes-Benz, has moved ahead with its yearly target of launching 12 new cars in India this year. Yesterday evening, the company launched its ninth model, Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d 4MATIC ‘Activity Edition’ at a base price of Rs. 38.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). This new member in the family has all-wheel drive system and comes with standard off-road package. With GLA 220d the company’s favorite 4MATIC all-wheel drive has knocked the door of the GLA class too in India.

This is the 6th SUV by Mercedes-Benz on the Indian soil this year and sharing his views on the increasing fan base of SUVs in India, the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Roland Forger, said, “Mercedes-Benz's SUV portfolio witnessed a strong demand since its introduction and grew over 100% in the last couple of years. The GLA was a key addition to our SUV portfolio as it not only generated volumes for us, but also opened the SUV segment to a much younger customer base.â€

We have sold over 3500 units of the GLA since its market introduction and with the launch of the GLA 220d 4MATIC Activity Edition, we expect the volumes to scale even further and add more value to the consumer.â€
The SUV has witnessed some tweaks in design which are quite apparent. The front fenders have been embellished with the ‘Activity Edition’ badge and the 18-inch refurbished alloy wheels won’t go unnoticed along with the chrome plating on the rocker panel and the door’s black decal. To celebrate the launch, the company is also offering the model in Mountain Grey color.
From the inside, the Activity Edition floor mat will welcome you warmly and the bigger 8.0-inch touchscreen display of the infotainment system will fourfold your entertainment package. The rear passengers can adjust their seats’ backrests up to 15 degree and the 60-litre of cargo space will be enough to accommodate your luggage. Other alluring features include a powered tailgate, Keyless GO, rain sensing wipers and smartphone integration package.
Mercedes-Benz 220d 4MATIC Activity Edition will supply power to the AWD through the 2143cc displacement capacity in-line 2.1-litre diesel engine with 4 cylinders. The power mill will be mated to a 7G-DCT tranny and will churn out a maximum power of 170PS along with a peak torque of 350Nm. The premium SUV can sprint to 100kmph from a standstill in 7.7 seconds.
All the Mercedes-Benz fans will be happy to know that the 220d GLA has already passed the Euro NCAP test with flying colors and has got an overall rating of 5 stars.
