BMW Unveiled the 5 Series Globally; Availability in India Expected After March

The year has just started we have already witnessed many launches and announcements from many luxury brands. It’s now seems to be the turn of the Bavarian marque, BMW. The company has recently unveiled the economical model of its popular 5 series. Named as 520d, the sedan is an India bound model and is expected to garner a good amount of sales for BMW in the country.The BMW 520d will be up for sale in the European continent in the month of March 2017 and it will be only after that should the car be available for the Indian market. However, no confirmed date is out officially for the availability, but trusted sources are hinting that the Bavarian automaker will not take much time to launch its economical sedan in India.

The 520d will be assembled locally at the Chennai plant of BMW and is expected to be available in different type of styling options, which include the M Sport packages too.

The 520d diesel model is powered by a 2.0-litre 4 cylinder engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 190PS and a peak torque of 400Nm. The salon can sprint from 0-100Kmph in 7.6 seconds by attaining a top speed of 250Kmph. The transmission duty is taken care by 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox.

The all new 520d delivers a fuel efficiency of 23.2Kmpl. The new model in the series will come with twin exhaust pipes and slim L-shaped LED lights in the taillight that perfectly suits the broad width of the luxury sedan. The kidney grille has gone sleek and the twin circular headlights’ glass has now been extended towards the grille to give the sedan a more sporty appearance.

From the inside, the company has extended the storage options in the new 5 Series where more legroom is available for the rear passengers making their ride more comfortable. The other updates include 4-zone climate control, seats with massage system, latest iDrive system and a 10.8-inch touchscreen.

Apart from introducing the 2017 5 Series in the market, BMW also refurbished the 4 Series line-up in the country alongside adding a diesel variant of 418d to its portfolio. The new diesel variant draws energy from a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that throws a power of 148BHP. However, there is no change in the powertrain.

The changes include some design tweaks, such as restyled bi-LED headlights, LED fog lamps, full LED tail lights with horizontal lighting mark and a reworked apron with chrome finish. Four new alloy wheel designs have also been introduced with 18-inch and 19-inch.

From the inside, the company has introduced double-stitched dashboard having Multifunctional Instrument Display panel along with choice between 3 new trims and upholstery options.The updated 4 Series will be up for sale in the country starting from March 2017 and there are no changes in the prices.
