The Bavarian carmaker is all set to launch the 7th generation of its mighty 5 Series in India on the upcoming June 29 for which the company has already started taking the pre-bookings for the same through its official dealership stores. For the unversed, the 2017 BMW 5 Series made its foray into the automobile world last year in the month of October. BMW will introduce its middle child in 3 engine options where 2 will be diesel operated and one will be petrol powered.
The 5 Series from BMW is considered to be the most perfect example of quality and class and taking its league forward, the new members of the family, to be called as G30, have borrowed the design cues from the 7 Series – the flagship lineup of BMW. To be available in choices of 3 engine options, the 520d and 530d will carry the diesel engine whereas the third member, 530i, will have petrol motor.
Where 520d will come with a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre engine churning out a max power of 190PS along with a peak torque of 400Nm, the top-ranging 530d will have a 6-cylinder 3.0-litre engine to produce a top power and torque of 265PS and 620Nm, respectively. On the other hand, the petrol version will be powered by a 2.0-litre motor capable of delivering a power of 252PS alongside a torque of 350Nm. All the three engine versions will be mated to an 8-speed automatic tranny.
The features loaded in the 2017 BMW 5 Series include shark-fin antenna, kidney grille and headlights with dual projector and squared-off corona rings. The company has also increased the wheelbase by 7mm alongside increasing the length by 36mm, width by 6mm and height by 2mm.
Step inside the cabin of 2017 BMW 5 Series and you will be treated with a plethora of alluring features, which include gesture control, infotainment system with a touchscreen and an LCD instrument cluster like the Audi Virtual Cockpit one. Apart from these, you may also find leather upholstery, electric seats, panoramic sunroof, and 4-zone climate control among the other usual offers. You could also be able to park your car easily using touchscreen key fob as the latest iteration of the 5 Series will also sport remote control parking feature.
With recently launched long wheelbase E-Class executive sedan by Mercedes-Benz, the competition has already reached to next level. And not to forget the Swedish carmaker, Volvo, which is making its foothold stronger in the Indian market with its fully imported S90 and the British marque Jaguar which has grabbed many eyeballs with its locally manufactured XF to promote make in India concept. And the race is incomplete without involving the 4 rings in the list with its A6 which is supposed to appear in an all new avatar next year.
Among all mentioned above including the about to launch BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class seems to have an edge above all as it is the only sedan available in India with long wheelbase to give an unmatched rear space to the passengers. Only time will tell how well these luxury brands perform in the growing automobile market of India.
