2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Launched at Rs 1.93 Crore in India

After making rounds in the rumor world, the 2017 Porsche Panamera has finally made its way to the Indian luxury car market. The company has introduced three variants of Panamera, namely Turbo, Turbo Sport Turismo and Turbo Executive, which are priced at Rs. 1.93 crores, Rs. 1.97 crores and Rs. 2.05 crores (ex-showroom, Mumbai), respectively. The 2017 Turbo variant of the luxury sports saloon made its first appearance at the Berlin Motor Show last year in June, whereas the long wheelbase Turbo Executive was debuted at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The 2nd generation Panamera was manufactured at the Leipzig, Germany-based plant akin to its previous model and it went on sale globally in late 2016. Those who weren’t aware, the first generation of the Panamera entered into the luxury car market back in 2009 and after serving for more than 7 years, its production came to an end in August 2016 with nearly 164,503 units produced and sold.

The second generation of Porsche GranTurismo model is based on the MSB platform of Volkswagen, developed by Porsche, and is almost 70 kilograms lighter and 5 percent stiffer than its current generation, thanks to the aluminum body. The all new 2017 Porsche Panamera is nearly 35mm x 5mm x 5mm longer, wider and taller than its previous gen model. However, the long wheelbase variant has taken a significant leap by almost 30mm.

With the style, design, and features, the company has also improvised the heart of the luxury saloon. It now comes with a twin-turbocharged V8 4.0-litre petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 550PS @5750-6000rpm along with a peak torque of 770Nm @1960-4500rpm. These figures are 30PS and 70Nm higher than the previous motor’s deliverability with improved engine efficiency by 10 percent.

The improvement in the overall figures is accredited to the all new 8-speed dual clutch tranny (PDK II) supporting all-wheel-drive, which replaces the old 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The new powertrain also features cylinder deactivation technology.

Being the sports saloon, the 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo can cover the 0-100Kmph speed within 3.7 seconds and if you have opted for the Sport Chrono package worth Rs. 3.96 lakh, then this time will reduce efficiently to 3.5 seconds. The top speed quoted has been 306Kmph. On the other hand, the time taken by the Turbo Executive variant is 3.9 seconds which reduces to 3.7 seconds with the Sport Chrono package and the Turbo Sport Turismo takes 3.8 seconds and 3.6 seconds with Sport Chrono package.

For the design, the 2017 Panamera seems to have undergone some cosmetic changes. Where the front look reminds us of the first-gen Panamera, the rear profile has been given a sharper appearance with new taillight reminding us of the latest 911. The roofline has also been tweaked and is now more coupe-like with the more aggressive look. Other standard features include a panoramic sunroof, touchscreen display for rear passengers, 4-zone climate control, Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and LED headlights.

Apart from these three variants, Porsche has also introduced the hybrid versions of Panamera but will announce their price later in two weeks of time. The technical specs of the hybrid guise will be the same as that of Turbo and Turbo Executive. It is also planning to introduce Panamera’s diesel versions in late 2017.
