The first word which comes to the mind of every man who loves and has once, driven the Viper, is that it is INTIMIDATING. It is a HANDFUL. And, that it is FAST and ENGAGING.

Here’s a tribute to one of the most loved cars in the history since Dodge made this beauty public to the world, The Viper.

This is the same crazy version of the Viper that SRT has been building since the past and carries the same lineage and uncompromising attitude that the other, older versions have.

The GTS has weight reduction in every way possible and has shorter gearing ratios. So much so that this car can hit 60 miles/hour in the FIRST GEAR itself.

WHAT DOES IT IMPLY?

It most simply implies that it has certain pros and also, some cons:

PROS:

1. In a 0-60 test, this car does not have to go through any gearshifts. Hence, the driver saves the precious time in shifting up after getting off from the line, which is the one and only disadvantage of having a manual transmo car while doing a 0-60 figure test.

2. All the 640 RAMPAGING AMERICAN HORSES propel you as soon as you floor the throttle and you just need to focus on the track.

CONS:

1. Such gearing ratios can earn you a speeding ticket even before you upshift through the second gearing. Which means, if you’re driving this beast on a freeway somewhere in America, you’ll never get to explore the higher gears of this car without being pulled over by a cop.

2. Because of the shorter gearing ratio, you’re constantly shifting too, and given the brash nature of this knuckle dragging caveman, you wish to have your eyes too, on the road.

This does a quarter mile in 11.4 seconds at a 128.7 mph.

SAVAGE, no?

This SRT, is intimidating, yes, but more controllable than other generations of the range of vipers.

So no considerable difference from the GTS apart from those 5 extra American horses and some aero trickery in the form of a huge, I mean HU…UGE rear wing for added downforce and mid corner stability to handle those understeers which the Viper is quite known for.

This ACR hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds which is not a good figure when you compare it to its most close and brutal rival, the Corvette Z06 which does it in 3.3 seconds flat.

BUT WAIT.

As much as acceleration and speed is important with these cars, so is their braking, and that is where the ACR conquers (mostly due to the downforce from its rear wing).

The ACR stops from 60 mph in 87 feet while the Z06 does it in 91 feet.

So,

How about the looks? Well both look almost the same but you notice the Badass-ery in the Viper more than you see it on the Z06 with the Z07 package. So,

ADVANTAGE: VIPER.

Other competitors of the series include the hardened German veteran, the Porsche GT3 RS, which is like the benchmark of the hardcore track oriented sportscar segment.

BUT, DOES THE PORSCHE FIT THE BILL AS THE OTHER TWO DO?

NO.

It is way off a $150,000 which is not the case with the ACR or the Z06.

Now, here’s the thing:

IF YOU HAVE A RACETRACK, THE VIPER ACR WILL SET A PRODUCTION CAR RECORD ON IT.

How?

Its not the power from that 8.4 L gigantic motor, because there are cars with more horses in the market too. Also it doesn’t have the fancy stuff like all wheel drive or torque vectoring. The performance numbers are because of the weight shedding, sticky tyres and a PLANET weight of downforce.

Yes, that’s the truth. Fiat Chrysler, the owner of Dodge, revealed that it will be ceasing the Viper rollout from August 2017.
