The most affordable luxurious SUV from the house of Porsche has finally knocked the doors of Indian automobile market. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about none other than Porsche Macan R4 that has been launched in India at a base price of Rs. 76.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Though when it comes to cross brand affordability, Jaguar F-Pace steals the show with a base price of Rs. 72.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the price is not the bar for hardcore Porsche fans.
The authorized Porsche dealers in India have already started taking the bookings of this little monster at a booking amount of Rs. 10 lakh. The company has chosen the perfect time to launch its SUV soon after Jaguar launched its F-Pace in India last month. The least expensive Porsche SUV is the only variant among its siblings to be priced aggressively below the Rs. 1 crore limit. This marginal difference in price is expected to attract many eyeballs but of course Porsche fans don’t need a reason to be behind the wheel of a car from the brand they are passionate about.
The all new Porsche Macan R4 attracts a good power of 248bhp alongside a torque of 370Nm from a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill. A distance of 0-100kmph can be covered in mere 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 229kmph.
The powertrain includes a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox that sends power to all the four wheels equally. Porsche’s air suspension supports Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which is a part of the standard equipment. What’s more enticing is the fact that when it comes to agility, Porsche Macan R4 leaves Jaguar F-Pace far behind, thanks to PASM.
Features supported in the Macan R4 include the likes of 3-zone automatic climate control system, traction control system, 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, voice recognition, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with PCM (Porsche Communication Management), powered tailgate, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel with paddle-shifters, 18-inch alloy wheels and daytime running LEDs. Customers can also opt for LED or bi-xenon headlamps, heated seats and panoramic sunroof in the customized package.
Porsche Macan is the 4th member of the Macan’s portfolio. The other three include Macan Turbo, Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo with Performance Package. Porsche Macan R4 will follow the direct import route to be available in the Indian luxury car market. Apart from facing competition from Jaguar F-Pace, the R4 SUV will also stand against Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 4MATIC that gives direct competition for being the petrol-driven rival. The latter’s launch price in India is Rs. 74.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
